Certified/Non-Certified Staff

For more information on the new-hire procedures, please view the paragraph below that corresponds with your degree of certification.

Certified

If you have previous experience, please make sure the Human Resources Office has the following:

  1. Employment verification from former employers for all years of teaching experience for which you are being credit on the salary schedule. If verification has not been received within 30 days of your start date, your salary will need to be adjusted to reflect the number of verified years of experience. (Certified teachers with standard type 03, 09, or 10 teaching certificates working as substitute teachers will go on the salary scale if they substitute in the same position for more than 10 consecutive days and have provided previous employment verification. Substitutes with type 39 certificates will be paid the current base rate after 10 consecutive days of substituting for the same teacher. (No teaching experience verification is needed because you are not a certified teacher and will be paid the base daily rate.)

  2. Official Transcripts from all colleges you have attended. We must have these in order to justify your placement on the salary schedule. Again, this verification must be received within 30 days of your starting day.

  3. Your Teaching Certificate must be registered in Vermilion County for the current school year. We must have a copy of your teaching certificate(s) indicating it has been registered in Vermilion County. If you have a provisional certificate, make sure you get registered for the testing for your standard certificate. In the spring, the Regional Ofice of Education will come to your school to register teachers' certificates for the following three school terms. This is a convenience for certified staff, but if you fail to register at the school, you must go to the Regional Office of Education to register your certificate(s) before you will be allowed into the classroom. If you get additional certificates or endorsements, please bring them in so that we can make a copy for your file and change your records.

  4. Physical Forms need to be turned in within 30 days of your employment date.

  5. TB Test Results need to be turned in within 7 days of your employment date. The County Health Department, located in the County Health Building at 200 College Street, gives free TB tests. These tests are given on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30-11:30 am and from 1:30-4 pm.

Additional college credit hours: If you complete more coursework, official transcripts should be submitted to the Human Resources Office in order to advance on the salary schedule. Refer to your contract book for details and deadlines.
